Who was Conor Skelding? Know more about him

Conor Skelding was a native of Chicago, he graduated from St. Ignatius College Prep in 2010 and later earned a bachelor’s degree from Columbia University in 2014. During his time at Columbia, he served as the editor of the university’s undergraduate magazine, The Blue and White. Additionally, Skelding was a member of the Inner Circle, a group of journalists from New York City that hosts an annual political gala for amusement.

Conor Skelding was a technically skilled rower who represented his team at the 2009 Head of the Charles during his four-year stint on the rowing team. His decision to join the team in 2006 sparked a decade of the Skelding brothers’ participation in the sport, with Cameron, Owen, and Aidan later returning to coach the team.

It was just a few weeks prior to his passing, Skelding married Lizzy Trelstad who is a Columbia alum.

Skelding credited Coach Rich Sims with positively influencing his growth during his formative years. Besides his journalism career, he was musically talented and had a keen sense of pitch. On Thursday evening, a wake will happen at St. John Cantius Church in Chicago, funeral mass is set to take place at the same location at 10:30 a.m. on Friday. Conor’s family is open for donations to the Canons Regular of St. John Cantius.

Aidan Skelding, Conor’s brother, expressed his grief over Conor’s death in a Facebook post. He mentioned that he couldn’t find the right words to describe Conor’s character and the void he has left behind. According to Aidan, Conor was a kind, principled, selfless, and loyal brother who never hesitated to correct them when necessary. Despite his illness, Conor didn’t let it slow him down and continued to enjoy life with his family and friends. Aidan believes that Conor’s stories and memories will continue to live on.

Bryan John Ellicott wrote on Facebook that he had met Conor when he worked for a former council member. He added that Conor was a great journalist and had played the perfect Justin Trudeau during the year of the Inner Circle. Bryan expressed that he would miss Conor and ended his post with the phrase, “Hail the Traveler”.
