In the 2023 Sundance Film Festival documentary “Kokomo City,” Koko Da Doll bravely exposed the harsh reality of being a Black trans woman. The documentary, directed by Grammy award-winning music producer D Smith, highlighted the struggles and violence that many Black trans women face.
Through her account as a sex worker, Doll shared the hardships of being in a marginalized community where job opportunities are scarce and support is few and far between. The documentary also shed light on how trans liberation intersects with Black culture.
How did Koko Da Doll die? What was the cause of her death?
The news of Koko Da Doll’s death has left Atlanta and beyond in shock, Koko Da Doll died from a gunshot wound on 18th April 2023.
According to police investigations the sex worker, whose real name was Rasheeda Williams, was found on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive with an apparent gunshot wound. The Atlanta police department reported that Rasheeda, aka Koko Da Doll was not alert, conscious, or breathing, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
As of yet, the investigation is ongoing and authorities haven’t named any suspects.

Daniella Carter has confirmed the death of Koko on her Instagram page saying; “MY CASTMATE WAS MURDERED LAST NIGHT. I’m truly at a lost of words and in deep pain.”
