Prior to joining the entertainment industry, Norell spent time in the Army, where he rose to the rank of captain. Upon leaving the military, he worked for the Richmond Times-Dispatch before eventually making his way to New York City to pursue acting. It wasn’t long before he found his way to Hollywood, where he secured the part of Captain Henry “Hank” Stanley, cementing his place in the annals of television history.

Although he underwent heart surgery before ay age of 79 years which led him into coma. He further spent 7 years of his life in medical care and with his family.
